THE Department of Energy has cited San Miguel Brewery, Inc. for its continuous effort to manage the use of power at the recent Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards in Makati City.
For posting significant reductions in power, four of its facilities found across the Philippines received the award. It likewise took note of Polo Brewery’s entry in the Large Industries Category of the ASEAN Best Practice for Energy Management in Buildings and Industries.
Cited were Sta. Rosa engineering supervisor Jovani Patrick Araza, San Fernando engineering supervisor Larry del Rosario, San Fernando engineering supervisor Nemesio Sanchez, San Fernando Brewery engineering manager Mariano Dayag, Sta. Rosa Bottling Plant operations manager Enrico Mariano, Polo engineering supervisor Francis Joseph Marquez, Polo plant manager Roberto De Leon, Polo engineering manager Danny Pajarillo, San Fernando plant manager Noel Villanueva, and Operations Technology specialist Rofuat Lu.

Bringing home the PBA championship isn’t just about ending a title drought for the San Miguel Beermen. It also heralds the start of a year-long celebration of a major milestone for both the most diversified conglomerate.
“Winning the All-Filipino Conference championship is indeed a great start for our parent company, SMC, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary,” SMB president Roberto N. Huang, who is also the team’s governor, says.
He adds: “We’d also like to express our gratitude to the fans who stood by the team through thick and thin. Your support continues to inspire the team to play harder just as they play for their families and loved ones.”
WARAYS HAILED AS FASTEST DRINKERS
They’re still reeling from the devastation caused by Typhoon Ruby before the close of 2014, when cousin-and-friends team from Sitio Bato, Borongan, Eastern dominated the 15th Edition of SMB’s National Beer Drinking Contestand carted away P250,000.
The team, composed of Jovencio Alcido, Jr., Charlie Katalbas, Ronnel Cananua, Benjamin Bagas, and Fortunato Cananua, was about to give up their participation in the national finals to rush fixing their houses for Christmas.
It had an official drinking speed of 48:81 seconds while Bgy. Parang, Marikina’s Team pulled off 50:01 seconds for the runner-up honors.
For the first time, the country’s most popular beer drinking contest included segments featuring other SMB brands.
The winners of one segment (Puerto Princesa City’s Brgy. Masikap) also won P250,000 other segment’s winners from Caloocan and Manila won P50,000 each. A P25,000 incentive was likewise given to winning barangays.
The annual beer-drinking competition engages at least 300,000 beer drinkers in more than 20,000 barangays nationwide. GOOD RIDDANCE/ARLIE CALALO
