AGGRESSIVE anti-criminality and anti-illegal drugs operations being carried out by the operating units of the Northern Police District and major police stations in Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela area have yielded sharp decrease in crime rate specifically on street lawlessness.

According to NPD director S/Supt. Roberto Fajardo, these accomplishments came after the strict implementation of ‘Project Double Barrel’ and ‘Oplan Tokhang’ campaign which was initiated by Philippine National Police Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa.

Based on the data presented by the District Investigation and Detection Management Division for July, significant decrease of crime rate in major crimes and street crimes, particularly crimes against properties compared to June 2016 has been recorded: cases of robbery reduced by 6.25%; theft to 31.57%; car theft to 100%; and motornapping to 39%.

It is also worth mentioning the striking reduction of cases of physical injuries that plunged to 66.40% compared also to last month’s (June 2016) recorded data.

July 1 to 26, 2016 showed significant increase in the operational accomplishments of NPD in terms of the enforcement of special laws; 245 persons were arrested (users/ pushers) for violation Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and 51 wanted persons were also arrested.

Interviewed during a courtesy call by officers and members of the Camanava Press Corps, C/Supt. Fajardo has vowed to continue the NPD’s ‘no let-up’ drive against all forms of criminality and illegal drugs activities until the whole of CAMANAVA area is safe from the dangers of the perpetrators of crimes.

He said further that fighting criminality and illegal drugs is a shared responsibility between the police and the community and therefore the public support is essential to achieve a peaceful and drug-free community.

‘NO WORK, NO PAY’ FOR HOUSE MEMBERS

More demeaning, according to Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, is the habit of some members of Congress to skip sessions where they’re supposed to be around in order not to derail the passage of vital measures.

That’s why, he’s doubly right when he pushes his ‘no work, no pay’ bill explaining that congressmen are like the ordinary people they represent, hence, they must get salary deductions if they’re not present or taking part during regular sessions.

Cong. Toby insists that his proposed measure doesn’t seek to demean lawmakers who’re perpetually absent from attending sessions. “It will not. Instead this should inspire him and his colleagues to work better as lawmakers and remain true to their sworn duties and be more accountable to the people,” he says.

Cong. Toby explains that even ordinary workers who get salary deductions if they don’t show up for work don’t feel humiliated with the policy.

“As public servants, I believe it is incumbent upon us to set high standards for work performance,” he’s been quoted as saying. GOOD RIDDANCE/ARLIE CALALO
