WE all know that planning is crucial in governance. It results in higher efficiencies and productivity.
Thus, the critical role of government planners, especially those in the local level, must be underscored and highlighted.
In the recent conference themed “Local Planners: Towards the Rightful Path in Pursuit of Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” LLPDCPI members shared their knowledge to help deliver effective and successful planning activities that promote- sound planning strategies for sustainable environment and community development especially for those living in the resettlement areas.
The 24th Annual National Convention of the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines, Inc. was held recently at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation, Legaspi City Albay.
The organization holds annual conventions that aim to improve LGU services which are vital in a developing country like the Philippines. Aside from the aforementioned, LLPDCPI prioritizes the welfare of its members through the aid of P20M fund which was raised by the organization’s previous president, Lina Sanogal of Negros Occidental.
Another highlight of the convention was the election of new officers where Marikina City Planning Officer and Acting City Administrator Tomas Aguilar, Jr. was elected information officer via majority vote of 500 members of the LLPDCPI.
Aguilar and the other elected officers will be serving the organization from July 2013 until June 2015.
“It is such an honor having been elected by our fellow planning officers and hold this vital position in the organization,” Aguilar said.
“We, members of LLPDCPI, are grateful to our previous president’s competence that we were able to raise enough funds which the members can utilize in times of need,” he added.
Among the projects which newly elected officers spearheaded by Genevieve Yanga of Aurora Province will be executed is the giving of financial assistance for its members as follows: P5,000 for the sick; P10,000 death benefit; and P20,000 for the retirement benefit.
We pray that Aguilar, who I have known for the past 20 years, and his fellow officers will contribute a great deal in our country finally achieving the much elusive inclusive growth so that development and prosperity will finally trickle down to the least of our brethren.
Congratulations, Brother Jun. Please continue to glorify God in everything that you do.
