arlie-calalo41EXACTLY one year today (Sept. 3) when many people especially those so close to him got the shock of their lives after hearing the sad news that the most adored local political figure, Malabon City Mayor Canuto “Tito” Oreta, had passed due to a lingering illness.

City residents as well as his friends and loved ones will have the chance to reminisce those good old days with Mayor Tito as a younger Oreta in the name of Mayor Lenlen Oreta III, his nephew, prepares programs aside from Holy Mass which will be held at the Amphitheater and that’ll bring us all back to days when he’s still alive.

Mayor Tito’s name became one and the same with the city owing to his dedicated and incomparable long years of public service.

Even members of the so-called Fourth Estate or media groups es-pecially those based in northern Metro Manila particularly those who have witnessed his unsurpassed style of leadership way back when he’s the Barangay May-silo chairman couldn’t hide their grief after learning about his demise.

“He’s a very approachable, low-key and down-to-earth person we had ever met. No one can surpass all the good things he did to many people and Malabon residents when he’s still alive, he was so well-loved by all,” some veteran reporters said of him.

For most residents who knew him for ages, they said they’re awed by the kindness and humility shown by the late mayor in spite of his stature as he’s known to be a successful businessman before he entered public service.

According to Mayor Lenlen, his uncle was synonymous to hope because he was the one who served as architect of growth and competitiveness that made the city more progressive as compared with what other previous local administrations did.

He says the 11-storey state-of-the-art and one-stop-shop City Hall building, the Oreta Sports Center, several modern public markets and new roads and bridges could be the tangible proof of the late mayor’s brand of leadership.

Sisters’ Acts

THERE’S no stopping for the localities of Navotas and Valenzuela to move continuously to progress now that the two are Sister Cities.

Both Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian are jubilant over the development as the duo promised to work together and share knowledge as well as resources to make sure that their respective consti-tuents would greatly and directly benefit.

Navotas will be the first among the local government units in Met-ro Manila to be the sister city of Valenzuela as we can see many potential partnership projects between the two prosperous neighboring cities.

The two mayors are expected to form a partnership group composed of five members from each city that is tasked to promote and expand an effective and mutually beneficial cooperation for the development as well as to foster meaningful technical exchange and cooperation for sustainable development, trade, investments, tourism, information technology, human development, as well as, culture and arts.
