BENHUR Luy is said to be the “happiest whistle-blower” in Senate history as he keeps on giggling when he testified before the Senate blue ribbon committee on the alleged nefarious activities of his former boss and cousin, Janet Lim-Napoles (JNL).
Showing no sign of nervousness, Luy was often heard and seen to be laughing even if the extent and scope of how much tax payers’ hard-earned money were stolen by those whom we have entrusted our lives with.
His appearance at the Senate hearing last Thursday kept almost the entire nation glued to television – incredulous at how well-entrenched he and his former boss used to operate in the august halls of Congress to dupe all of us.
But before he is proclaimed as a credible witness as Sen. Chiz Escudero, a lawyer by profession, would like us to believe, let us subject his testimonies to cross examination to determine whether he is indeed telling the whole truth.
You see, nowadays, talks are cheap and unless you can back it up with verifiable documentary evidence enough to pin down certain senators and congressmen, then you can have my ear.
I just find it incredulous how, as Luy narrated under oath, JNL withdrew in a single day Php75-million from a certain bank in Binondo, Manila without alerting the Anti-Money Laundering Council. This bank must have a huge vault.
In addition, it is indeed a “very sexy story” to hear that bundles of peso bills were stacked in JNL’s bed, sofa or bath tub. Or that Napoles bathes herself with fresh milk. What could be sexier than that! Too Freudian!
In this country, it is sad enough that people can easily make accusations against any one without any basis. But it is even sadder that we allow this kind of people to get away with it.
But before we pass judgment on those lawmakers named in the pork barrel scandal, let us examine thoroughly the testimonies not only of Luy and the other witnesses but also, most importantly, that of Mrs. Napoles.
Let us say enough is enough, alright. But we want the truth, not your lies.
