APPARENTLY shocked by the crooked handiwork of some individuals, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan decides to issue a warning on local businessmen against this group of unidentified persons whose modus operandi is to call through telephone unsuspecting victims and impersonate the mayor as if he’s the one soliciting for cash donation for a campaign for street children which is non-existent at all.
A visibly-incensed Mayor Malapitan couldn’t hide his dismay after he’s informed about atleast two businessmen who were victimized by the group. After talking with the victims, the mayor found out that at least two persons were involved wherein a first caller would talk to their unsuspecting target to introduce the mayor and then pass the phone to the second person who would speak in a voice as if the real Mayor Malapitan was the one talking with the victim.
One of them, a businesswoman, said that she’s readily convinced that it was the mayor whom she was talking over the phone because the man’s voice sounded like him. As a result, she gave in to the wishes of ‘Mayor Malapitan’ and deposited cash to a Metrobank account at Laguna branch as directed by the caller who pretended to be the Caloocan chief executive.
Enraged by another unscrupulous means being peddled by these lawless elements, Mayor Malapitan takes the opportunity to issue stern warning on local businessmen about this group saying he never authorizes anyone to use his name or worse, impersonate him just to solicit money for a non-existent project or campaign.
Mayor Oca then instructs the city police headed by its chief, Senior Supt. Bernard Tambaoan, to dig deeper into the matter by unmasking behind the modus operandi with dispatch before the group could victimize another unwary businessmen. He has this warning to the crooked group or individuals: “Better desist from such illicit activities especially like this one that you’re using my name and even impersonating me just to solicit funds from businessmen, we will catch you and hold criminally liable.”
The Caloocan mayor says that his ‘Tao ang Una’ administration has lined up several pro-poor and pro-people projects and programs while others had already been implemented and these are all being funded by the taxpayers’ hard-earned money.
He says, these projects include two additional school buildings for the University of Caloocan City; 546 classrooms for 19 other public schools; a 50-bed hospital building in Caloocan North; a lying-in center in Bagong Barrio, low-cost housing for some 1,618 informal settlers along waterways; and a public market in Bagong Silang among others.
