arlie-calalo41LOCAL officials in neighboring cities of Navotas and Malabon led by Mayors John Rey Tiangco and Antolin ‘Lenlen’ Oreta III, respectively, had been engrossed in the past days as they separately led the celebration of National ‘Buntis’ Day and Women’s Month.

Initiated by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), the annual Search for ‘Mrs. Buntis’ took place in Navotas with Mayor Tiangco and key city officials attending the event.

It was learned that at least 14 pregnant women who represented the coastal city’s 14 barangays joined the pageant as a symbol of their support to its advocacy to provide awareness on the needs and responsibilities of pregnant women.

The participants were introduced during the regular flag-raising ceremony before local officials and employees as well as barangay executives prior to the talent competition at the Navotas Sports Complex.

In nearby Malabon, Mayor Oreta, known for being an advocate on marital care program, took time in mingling with over 300 pregnant women as part of the annual celebration held at the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon.

“Ipinaliwanag natin sa kanila ang kahalagahan ng pre-natal care para masiguro ang kanilang kalusugan at kaligtasan pati na ang kanilang mga sanggol sa kanilang sinapupunan,” Mayor Oreta said,

With Mayor Oreta were doctors from the City Health Department led by Dr. Rommel Lizan and Dr. Wilfredo Marquez and representatives from POGS Foundation, Inc. (Camanava Chapter) led by Dra. Juanita Cariño, POGS Camanava Chapter president; president-elect Dra. Ma. Teresa Malig and past president Dr. Majumi Bismark.

Aside from pre-natal care lectures, the pregnant women got free natal check-up, ultrasound and vitamins courtesy of Mayor Oreta and the city government.

Both Mayors Tiangco and Oreta reiterated the significance of the celebration whose aim was educating the pregnant mothers on proper care and handling of new born babies and infants and promoting regular pre-natal session for pregnant mothers and importance of the new born screening for babies.

CAMANAVA PRESS’ AND REMATE’S PRIDE

MY Kumpadre, Romy Torilla, who is also a veteran photo-journalist of widely-read Remate tabloid, turns to be a pride of his newspaper and of course, the CAMANAVA Press Corps, of which he’s a regular member and a former club officer. Well, he just emerged second to the best of the Manila Bay Seasports Festival held recently at the Roxas Boulevard, Manila which was initiated by the Elizalde-owned Manila Broadcasting Company–DZRH.

Piloting his motorboat Evolution, which was owned by Archie Ramos, Randy Juat and Reynaldo Casaval and Chief Mechanic Edward Valeriano, he (Torilla) bested boat racers from Bacolod City and Cagayan de Oro City who got the prizes for 2nd and 3rd runners up. Boat racer from Boracay emerged the champion of the annual national boat race.

All the winners received cash prizes and motor engines.
