SULU Vice-Governor Abdusakur Tan, in a letter dated 16 October 2014, wrote me the following letter clarifying his stand on the Bangsamoro Basic Law:
MS. JOSEPHINE JARON CODILLA, Columnist, “Been There, Done That”, Remate
Dear Ms Codilla,
Greetings!
I came to read one of your previous column (s), Sulu Vice Governor Expresses Opposition to BBL, a rundown to the debate in Congress for the promulgation of the Bangsamoro Basic Law which will see the birth of the Bangsamoro Entity.
I made strong suggestions, then, on how best to consult the people directly affected by the creation of the New Bangsamoro Entilty and provided background insights which may have been inadvertently interpreted as an “opposition”.
To correct the notion of readers who may have been swayed by your column and still maintain negative impressions about myself and Sulu in general, allow me to provide you with copies of a manifesto and resolutions expressing the official stand of LGUs in Sulu as representatives of the people.
I hope you will accord equal coverage and space in your column on the full and absolute support of the province for the peace efforts of President Benigno S. Aquino III in attaining peace in the region.
Please feel free to contact the undersigned when you need more insights into the matter.
Truly,
(Sgd.) ABDUSAKUR M. TAN, Vice Governor
I received Vice Governor Tan’s letter only last Sunday, November 30.
A copy of the said “Manifesto of Support and Position Paper on the Bangsamoro Basic Law” signed by 17 of the 19 mayors of Sulu on 16 September 2014 will be published in full in my column at remate.ph.
