THE Caloocan City Halls (south city hall in Mabini Street and north city hall in Zabarte Road) might be the only city halls in the country, if not in the world, that extend its social services to the citizenry, not only for medical, burial or financial assistance but in other unconventional ways such as free facial, phone repairs and massage, among others.
Mayor Oca Malapitan explains that ever since his assumption into office in July 2013, he’s been implementing the “People’s Day” wherein the usual city services, plus more, are given to the needy people.
“The ‘plus more’ in that statement are unusual services that can be availed in a city hall, such as cellphone and appliances repair, haircut, facial, manicure, pedicure, therapeutic massage, vaccine and diagnostics for pets, and many more,” the mayor says.
Because of the city’s Manpower and Livelihood Center wherein they provide free vocational training for students, such as in automotive, welding, culinary arts and many more,” we have a steady supply of skilled technicians, stylists and artists who are giving back to the city what they have learned through free vocational education,” he tells the Camanava Press Corps, of which yours truly heads.
He adds: “People go to the city hall because they need something, such as medical, financial, employment, burial, legal assistance but they are also being provided with free ‘grooming’ services while waiting for their queue numbers to be called.”
These added services are big help to the needy residents as they don’t have to spend money for repairs and personal grooming services, the former lawmaker-turned-mayor says.
The venues for these services are: every Thursdays at City Hall South, every Fridays at City Hall North, and on Saturdays or Sundays as a component of the mobile city hall that goes in far-flung barangays.
