A man was teeing off and the ball struck another on the head.
The man, visibly irked, shouted at the lousy hitter, “I am a lawyer and this will cost you, maybe P5,000.”
“I’m sorry but I shouted FORE!” The lawyer quickly replied, “OK I will take it!”
I must say I seldom venture into the realm of sports but this time let’s give way to two retired Philippine National Police (PNP) officers who are golf buddies.
Col. Rey Ulic and Major Benito “Boy” Arciaga are past their prime but still quite gung-ho in activities that keep them very busy.
Of course, the common bond that seals their lasting friendship is their love for golf.
They are now at the forefront of bringing together Filipinos and other Asians, particularly Japanese nationals, in a friendship golf tournament scheduled on June 30 at the Villamor Golf Club, Nichols, Pasay City.
This time around every participant in the forthcoming golf tourney can rest assured that, unlike the two “golf baddies” I mentioned above, there won’t neither be a hustling lawyer or a lousy hitter.
Instead, with the countdown ticking for the golf event, every player can look forward to having a grand time playing golf.
“This is just a prelude to a much bigger one, perhaps a mayor’s cup early next year for Pasay City,” the golf buddies said, hinting that for now they would just focus on the June 30 golf event to ensure its success.
Both Col. Ulic and Maj. Arciaga are promoting camaraderie in sports by aspiring to inspire more golf enthusiasts. No wonder their favorite golf saying is “To find a man’s character, play golf with him.” DEEP FRIED/RAUL VALINO
