PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III wants the children of Ferdinand Marcos to apologize to the whole nation for their late father’s sins and for the death of Sen. Benigno Aquino, Jr. whose mastermind remains unknown.
Their late father Ferdinand and their mother Imelda are being accused pocketing people’s money and of killing or jailing their political enemies.
Ferdinand is dead making it impossible for him to defend himself. Imelda is still alive but she had been acquitted so far by various courts, including one in New York.
But Benigno III also insists that the surviving members of the Marcos family must be banned from holding any government position.
The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay and his son Junjun Binay who are both being accused of massive corruption alleges that their re-election insulates them from further charges against them.
They cited the Aguinaldo doctrine of the Supreme Court.
The people, specifically the voters of Makati, exonerated them, they said.
The Aguinaldo doctrine, of course, is not about General Emilio Aguinaldo, but about Gen. Rodolfo Aguinaldo of Cagayan who mutineed against the state.
He was a member of the then outlawed Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM).
He ran for the positions of congressman and governor and won them.
The Supreme Court allowed him to go scot free because the people’s voice was more paramount than the voice of the courts.
The Marcoses, including the Romualdezes, have won every election since the death of Ferdinand.
Are they now free of any liabilities following the Aguinaldo doctrine?
Emilio Aguinaldo was head of his dictatorial regime that executed Andres Bonifacio and Gen. Antonio Luna.
Benigno Aquino, Sr., was also accused of being a collaborator during World War II.
Would it be proper now to tell their grandchildren including Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya to apologize for whatever sins the grandfather supposedly committed and to ban the clan from entering government any further? DEEP FRIED/RAUL VALINO
