WITH the confiscation of smuggled products hitting an average of almost every other day, one could say that none among the agencies in the government can match the consistent and sophisticated intelligence networks being used by Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rozzano “Ruffy” Biazon and BOC personnel.
It only means that these crooked smugglers, who try to cheat the government of taxes by employing dirty tactics to earn quick money, are now finding it hard to go on with their nefarious activities undetected as they’re now unmatched by the watchful eyes of Biazon’s men wherever they keep or hide their contraband.
To cite a latest anti-smuggling operation, Commissioner Biazon and his alert men swooped down over the weekend on a cold storage owned by T.P. Marcelo & Co. Inc. located along Honorio Lopez Street, North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS), in Navotas City, which yielded about P3 million worth of imported onions.
Accompanied by Customs Intelligence Division chief Richard “Ricky” Bebong, the commissioner personally inspected the over 5, 000 sacks of smuggled products and immediately directed the concerned bureau officials to carry out a thorough probe to identify and prosecute those behind it.
“We cannot just allow these individuals to go on with their illegal activities. They must be stopped otherwise they will continue to shortchange the government of the much-needed taxes that must benefit our people especially those at the poor sector,” says the former Muntinlupa City lawmaker.
Having initiated various reforms at the bureau and posted billions of pesos of seized contrabands just last year, the Biazon-led BoC has remarkably outdone the performance of his predecessors.
As I had mentioned in the previous articles, PNoy must be very lucky for he has in his administration a man like Comm. Biazon who spares no one in the sustained war against all forms of smuggling activities in the country.
ALIMAGNOS OF CABUYAO
THE people of Cabuyao, Laguna, where yours truly completed my primary education at a public school there, have every reason to be jubilant as they’re doubly fortunate they’ve local officials who are sincere and dedicated to public service.
Don’t say it is mere coincidence but they’re real great cousins – Councilor Wanda Alimagno and Barangay Sala Chairman Amelito “Ting” Alimagno.
With Councilor Wanda, the daughter of longest-serving mayor, Mauro “Uro” Alimagno and consistent topnotcher among city councilors who’s gunning for the vice mayoral post and Chairman Ting a council post come May 13 midterm polls, all the local electorate can do is vote for a company of people who can unselfishly give their time and, yes, resources like the Alimagno cousins do that’ll help transform Cabuyao into a more progressive and competitive city.
No regrets that I can’t cast vote there. Anyway, my elder brother, Ariel, who lives there must be very privileged because he can surely experience the brand of leadership these two Alimagnos of Cabuyao can offer to the city folk. Good luck soon-to-be Vice Mayor Wanda and Councilor Ting!
