KNOWN for ignoring unfounded and malicious criticisms especially from those who never see the good things, brothers Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian and District 1 Rep. Rex Gatchalian show to the world that they, too, have limitations.
Speaking separately during a recent proclamation rally held beside the old city hall which was attended by ex-President Joseph “Erap” Estrada and some United Nationalist Alliance’s senatorial bets, the Gatchalian siblings gang up on re-electionist Rep. Magi Gunigundo (District 2) whose wife, Adel, challenges Rex for the mayoral post come May 13 polls.
Obviously pushed to the limits, Sherwin on stage decried Magi’s disturbing performance as District 2 residents’ real representative especially during tragedies that struck the city and where the latter spent his pork barrel over the years.
A visibly dismayed Sherwin, who seeks to replace his brother, Rex in District 1, said: “The Ondoy and Habagat tragedies took place, there were calamities and fire incidents that hit the city and left residents especially in his district homeless, displaced and in hunger but where was he? I did not see him, even his shadow. What was he doing during those hard times?
Maski nga kape at biskwit wala siyang ibinigay sa mga residente. May pondo naman siya, saan n’ya dinala?” says Sherwin to the crowd’s wild cheer.
Defending his elder brother on issue that he virtually made the vice mayor and councilors as puppets, Rex says their political foes must be barking on wrong tree as he’s certain that the strong and solid relations among city officials were mistaken by Magi for what he thought about.
“Well, he must better think twice on people behind him because they too are convinced how we and all city officials are managing the city, which has been transformed into a more progressive and competitive local government unit as shown by huge increase in revenues and numerous citations and awards for good governance, accountability and transparency,” says Rex as he reveals that at least two Gunigundo candidates had approached them to become part of the Gatchalians’ team.
If given chance, Rex vows to not only equal the accomplishments of his elder brother that benefit the constituents and the city as a whole. He will surpass it with his complete ‘Tayo na Valenzuela’ team of veteran and newcomer candidates emerging victorious on E-Day.
Completing the Gatchalians’ trio is the youngest of them, Rep. Wes Gatchalian, of the Alay sa Buhay partylist. Like his two siblings, he assures residents of full support and assistance.
