NAVOTEñA entrepreneurs have been inspiring their fellow women with their real-life stories during the 6th Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit initiated recently by the city government.
Some 447 Navoteñas learned how to succeed in business from Corazon Reyes, owner of Cora’s black kutsinta; Aurelia Sison, owner of Auring’s Pancit Luglog; and Vella Cruz, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tentay Food Sauces Inc.
“More and more women have gone into business; even my wife now has her own event styling company,” said Mayor John Rey Tiangco.
Mayor Tiangco said his wife, Barbie, discovered her talent and passion for event styling after supervising the baptism reception party of their eldest child. Friends and acquaintances soon came to her and asked her to design their events.
“Know what you enjoy doing the most and what you are good at. Both are crucial if you want to start a business,” he advised.
He assured participants that the local government will help them should they decide to venture into business.

“Being a clutch player himself, we believe Coach Richie is the best fit for our team,” said Atty. Rico Quicho, of the Clutch’s management team.
“His attention to detail and passion to teach and develop young players demonstrate what Navotas Clutch is all about,” Quicho said.
Joining him in the revamped Clutch coaching staff are assistant coaches Gabby Severino, Ed dela Torre, and Bernard de Guia.
Meanwhile, Quicho said the team has implemented the Protect 9 of MPBL, which means players included in the scheme can’t be signed by other teams without the proper release paper signed by the owner.
New scholars welcomed
Mayor Tiangco has welcomed 31 new scholars following the signing of a memorandum of agreement with the 8th batch of the NavotaAs academic scholarship program.
Of the 31, 24 were incoming high school freshmen, three from the Navotas Polytechnic College, two from the college or university of their choice, and two teachers seeking higher education.
“Through this program, we want our youth to dream big and strive for great things. We want them to feel unhampered by their status in life,” the mayor said.
Tiangco also assured that the city government will always support Navoteños and help them bring their dreams into reality.
Since the NavotaAs Scholarship Program was established in 2011, the city government has sent to school 587 Navoteños.
Of this number, 293 were academic scholars, 283 were athletic scholars, and 11 were art scholars. GOOD RIDDANCE/ARLIE CALALO
