I am one of the only 876 Face Book (FB) friends (I have 2,200) of Atty. Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Gonzales Reyes, former Chief of Staff of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile who was among those implicated in the pork barrel scam and who is out of the country at the moment.
When I saw her FB post Saturday afternoon, September 21, I knew it would immediately get media’s attention. True enough, at 9:38 p.m., ABS-CBN came out with an online article and published in toto the former chief of staff’s statement.
“I have every intention to defend myself, my name and my honor and to acquit myself of all the baseless charges and blatant lies being spread about me and those contained in perjured affidavits of so-called whistle-blowers,” she said.
Initially, I chose not to “share” Atty. Reyes’ status out of respect, although I knew she wouldn’t mind and might have even expected people to share it. As of Sunday evening, her status has been shared 80 times. It is still posted on her FB wall, but only her friends can “see” her; the public could not search or find her name on Facebook.
The deluge of manifestations of love, support, and prayers for guidance and strength came immediately after Reyes posted her status.
“I love you mom. You’re definitely not alone in this,” assures Reyes’s son.
Another friend told Reyes of his belief that she would “not do anything without blessing and authority (of) Manong Johnny.”
“God knows who you really are, a woman of good and kind heart, beautiful inside and out. God is on your side and we are all here for you. Always praying for God’s strength and guidance,” another friend said as a form of testimony.”
