AN endeared friend, Manny Tangco, deserves ample recognition for his effort to transform the Malabon Zoo into an amazing hub of different animals in the world that everyone, especially our kids, can watch and enjoy to the max!
And he’s always full of ideas in his determined bid to make sure that those who visit the zoo will surely be astonished.
Just now, Manny and zoo personnel have joined in the celebration of the World Animal Day (Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals) and World Teachers’ Day by inviting around 100 teachers and principals coming from various schools, including the Pinagbuhatan High School, Nagpayong Elem. School and F. Benitez Elem. School to witness how he swims with two young tigers in a glass pool.
And while they swim together, they’ll be blessed by Catholic Monsignor Alex Amandy who’s also expected to bless the pets brought in by animals lovers and groups like the North Alpha Pack, Chihuahua Club of the Phil., Lhasa Apso Manila, Bulacan Hamster Owners’ Society and Malabon Dog Pack Club, among others.
“The swim with the tigers symbolizes hope as opposed to a doomsday thinking that there’s still a chance for our endangered species to survive if we just give them the space and respect they deserve,” says the energetic and good-humored Manny.
As to the nation’s great mentors, he says: “Our teachers and principals should always be celebrated and recognized because they are among the most powerful people who can inspire the youth.”
He adds: “Everyday should be Teachers’ Day and Animal Day because we learn a lot from all of them everyday!”
May your tribe multiply.
DENR, MINERS AGREE TO WORK TOGETHER
DAYS after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources made public the results of its mining audit, DENR officials led by Secretary Gina Lopez and mining companies agreed to work together to ensure that mining redounds to the common good and improves lives of Filipinos, especially in communities that host mining operations.
The secretary has urged them to take part in the DENR’s integrated area development approach to create “mini economic zones” that can generate employment, livelihood and income-generating activities in communities where they operate.
She has stressed about the agency policy and the Duterte administration that the bottom line is “for the country’s natural resources to be used in a way that benefits the most number of people.”
“There are people who benefit but many others who don’t and suffer. And they fight with each other. That’s the most painful—when the presence of a business interest creates social fissure.”
Presenting the Total Economic Valuation framework, which she described as a “fair and scientific way to make decisions based on monetary evaluation,” Sec. Lopez pushes to use TEV to identify and quantify the major environmental impacts of mining and from there decide which programs to implement in their areas. GOOD RIDDANCE/ARLIE CALALO
