THERE’S wisdom in Caloocan City Congressman-elect Edgar “Egay” Erice’s broached idea for all newly-elected local officials to join him in a “Unity Summit” in a determined bid to unify them “as election was over and it’s time to work together for the good of the residents and the city as well.”
“The recent election had been successful and the local electorate had elected those candidates they wanted to lead them. Now it’s proper that we, as newly-elected officials, should do our share, let’s unite regardless of our party affiliations for the common good,” says District 2 Rep. Erice. Such historic event, if pushed through, can be doubly significant if the city folk, along with members of non-government organizations, businessmen, students, civic and religious groups can be present during the summit.
He adds: “They will serve as witnesses to this important day in Caloocan wherein all the newly-elected officials who belong to different political groups will come together for a common purpose, that is for the city’s progress and development.”
The proposed summit is imperative because it’ll ensure unity among them and that’s good for the city.” In his plan, Rep. Erice, who led a motorcade on Sunday wherein he thanked the residents and local voters for their support as indicated by his victory in the polls, will propose to his colleagues that they present their programs and platforms they all have promised during the campaign period and implement them together regardless of their political affiliations.

Brigada Eskwela in Navotas
THE Navotas City government has strengthened its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) as the former threw its support behind the latter’s “Brigada Eskwela 2013” in which massive clean-up and restoration activities will be undertaken especially in public schools in time for the opening of classes next month.
According to Mayor John Rey Tiangco, he has already directed the concerned city officials to closely coordinate with the school authorities in implementing measures related to the project to ensure that the schools are all completely prepared before the start of classes few weeks from now. Under the project, the city government and school officials will lead in the clean-up activity and restoration and repainting of some damaged classrooms in the city’s 22 public schools, the reelected mayor said.
The local health office will also undertake anti-dengue spraying in school premises to make sure that personnel and students would be safe from the deadly disease.
Brigada Eskwela 2013 will be more successful if members of non-government organizations and civic groups in Navotas will again join with the local government as what they regularly did in the previous years.
